The museum/research center is unique in that there is no other museum in the nation dedicated solely to the memory of the chaplains, priests, and rabbis who served in the US and CSA armies during the Civil War. Employing videos, murals, paintings, artifacts, and displays, the museum/research gives its visitors an overview of the importance of religion to soldiers of both sides during the Civil War. Special attention is also given to the role of the US Christian Commission, the forerunner of today’s USO and Red Cross.
