Each year the streets come to life for the holiday season in Lynchburg. Experience parades, historic home tours, carriage rides, Christmas shows and so much more to celebrate the season and the beginning of a new year.
2012 Holiday Events
VA Christmas Spectacular
December 1-2nd, 7-9th
Enjoy a traditional Christmas celebration complete with live choir and orchestra, a 37’ tall Living Christmas tree, and around 150,000 sparkling lights.
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides
Saturday, December 1st, 8th, & 15th 10:00AM to 2:00PM
Old-fashioned carriage rides will take you through the beautifully decorated streets of downtown Lynchburg after departing from the Community Market. Take part in this tradition free of charge.
Lynchburg Chrsitmas Parade

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a parade! This year’s theme is “Christmas, A Time to Remember”.
Children’s Holiday Festival
December 8th from 8:30am to 1:00pm
Bring the whole family and start spreading some holiday cheer! Come enjoy an interactive holiday story time, holiday crafts, pancakes with the Santa and a special holiday concert!
Wreaths Across America Ceremony
December 8, 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Join in on this nationwide event of placing wreaths on the graves of fallen veterans to honor them and all members of the military.
December 9th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
This special tour will focus on holiday traditions and dining in the early 19th century at Thomas Jefferson’s retreat home.
‘Celebrate the Season’ Open House
December 1st 1:00 to 5:00 pm
Decorated lavishly, there is no better time to visit this gorgeous, historic home.
Christmas Open House
December 2nd 12:00 to 4pm
Decorated for Christmas in 1815, you’ll experience customs of the day, period music and refreshments while you explore.
Red Hill Christmas Open House
December 2nd 2:00 to 4pm
Guests will be treated to docent-guided tours of the historic buildings at Red Hill all decorated for the holiday by the Red Hill Garden Club. Complimentary hot mulled cider, Brunswick stew, and cookies will be available throughout the afternoon.
