The Jefferson Choral Society of the greater Lynchburg area will hold its second annual fundraiser golf tournament on May 21 at the Ivy Hill Golf Club in Forest, Va. This event is open to the public. Event and hole sponsors are needed. Any four-person team is invited to participate in this Captain\\\'s Choice tournament. Check-in and lunch will be at 11:30am with tee off at 12:30pm. The American Civil War spawned some of the most brilliant minds in military history, some of the biggest duds, and every type of commanding officer in between. Much has been made of the stark contrasts in the abilities of Union Generals, but what of the Confederates? From Robert E. Lee to Louis Wigfall, from J.E.B. Stuart to Braxton Bragg, the Confederacy, too, had a wide spectrum of military capacity resulting in some generals being good, others bad, and a few downright ugly. Join Development Officer Will Glasco as he compares and contrasts the leadership styles of various Confederate commanders and draws conclusions about “who are of stuff to make good generals.” Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm and the lecture will begin at 7:00 pm. An evening of patriotic music at the National D-day Memorial in Bedford, VA at 7:00pm.
From 7pm to 8pm visitors can enjoy a moonlight serenade with music by ensemble Let\\\'s Dance who will perform music selections from the 1940\\\'s. At 8pm the combined adult choirs of the Jefferson Choral Society and The Chorus of the Blue Ridge with special guests, Cantate, the children and youth choir of Central Va will perform a thrilling patriotic concert.

The Memorial will remain open until 10:00pm. Tickets are now on sale. Adults: $7.00 in advance or $10.00 at the door. Students ages 6-18: $5.00 in advance or $8.00 at the door. Children under 6 are free. All proceeds will benefit the Memorial. Bring your own chair. Transportation services will be available for guests requiring assistance from the parking lot to the memorial.

The 2013 Central Virginia Civil War Heritage Ball will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, 8pm – 11pm in The Ballroom Hall Campus Center at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Ball features Period music by The McKenzies, Dance instruction, Refreshments, and a Professional Photographer. Civil War period dress or appropriate evening attire is required for all ball attendees.

Poplar Forest is pleased to offer its continuing Architectural Restoration Field School, begun in 1990.
The restoration staff have designed the program to take advantage of the unique opportunities offered during the course of this model project. Multi-disciplinary approaches are emphasized and hands-on training is offered where possible. Selected field trips place this particular project in a broader conservation and restoration perspective. The program provides an awareness and a knowledge of the rich complexity of details and issues found in the architectural restoration of historic properties.

One of Shakespeare’s last plays, Cymbeline is a fairy tale romance. Princess Imogen becomes a prisoner in her own castle when her father, King Cymbeline, discovers that she has secretly married the low-born Posthumous. When Posthumous is banished from Britain, Imogen escapes from the castle and sets out to find her love in the mysterious forests of Britain, where she encounters mistaken identity, war, and strange potions. In Endstation’s production, using the art of imagination, a troupe of Depression-era actors bring Shakespeare’s fairy tale world to vivid life with nothing but the clothes on their backs and whatever possessions they can find. This will be a night of incredible theatrical magic, whether on the Sweet Briar campus, at Old City Cemetery, at Poplar Forest, or at Presbyterian Homes and Family Services.

Juneteenth Freedom and Emancipation Day, June 15, 2013 will celebrate Men Moving Forward in the 21st Century. The Juneteenth event will feature MADLAD, DJ providing family oriented music, Praise Dancing, Spoken Words, Cake Walk, Arts and Crafts Vendors, Men\\\'s Group Community Service Awards, Civic and Organizations scholarship award recipients, Signature events, and Children and Youth Activities/Games.

The James River Batteaux Festival is a week long re-enactment of how tobacco and other products were carried downstream to Ricmond. The launch of the 2013 James River Batteaux Festival will be from Percivals Island at 11:00 AM.

Through the fun and energy of vaudeville performance styles, we will meet the residents of Padua as they employ Petruchio to “tame” their infamous “shrew,” Katarina. Audiences will be entertained by this thrilling comedy like never before as they enjoy a Downtown Lynchburg outing or a picnic on the beautiful Sweet Briar campus.

Restaurant/Bar Challenge - JUST FOR FUN!!!
AMF Lynchburg Lanes presents the First Ever Restaurant/Bar Challenge. Fun, competitive, and friendly. Composed of local restaurant/bar employees competing for the Champion of the Month title!!!
Begins on Sunday, April 21st at 9pm and will be held the third Sunday of each month for 4 months.
There is no cost!!!!
Teams will consist of 3 people (businesses are allowed to have more than one team)
You must pre-register 2 weeks prior to each months challenge.
Each month the highest scoring bar/restaurant takes a trophy back to their establishment to display until the next month.
The overall champion of the end of the program receives a trophy for the bar/restaurant to keep for display.
Take advantage of the best way to end a busy weekend with bowling!!!
