Mama Wont Fly is the hilarious new comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope & Jamie Wooten - the authors of Red Velvet Cake Wars.
Directed by Tom Nowell
Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
An outrageously hilarious race against the clock begins when Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt agrees to get her feisty mother all the way from Alabama to California in time for her brothers wedding. Savannahs problem: Mama wont fly. With only four days to make it to the ceremony, this determined daughter has no choice but to drive cross-country with her mother. As a surprise, the bubbly, over-eager bride-to-be arrives unannounced When the journey begins, comedic chaos ensues! Every conceivable—and inconceivable—mishap that can occur does...including the theft of their car and all their clothes, a near-fatal encounter at an underwear museum, the accidental homicide of an ancient Texas relative, a mad dash across the desert in a hijacked eighteen-wheeler and a riotous detour to Vegas that ends in a brawl with an ordained showgirl/minister. This ferociously funny comedy, by the same team that wrote Red Velvet Cake Wars, will have you laughing your way across the country and all the way down the aisle!

One of Shakespeare’s last plays, Cymbeline is a fairy tale romance. Princess Imogen becomes a prisoner in her own castle when her father, King Cymbeline, discovers that she has secretly married the low-born Posthumous. When Posthumous is banished from Britain, Imogen escapes from the castle and sets out to find her love in the mysterious forests of Britain, where she encounters mistaken identity, war, and strange potions. In Endstation’s production, using the art of imagination, a troupe of Depression-era actors bring Shakespeare’s fairy tale world to vivid life with nothing but the clothes on their backs and whatever possessions they can find. This will be a night of incredible theatrical magic, whether on the Sweet Briar campus, at Old City Cemetery, at Poplar Forest, or at Presbyterian Homes and Family Services.

Set in 1964 in the Deep South with the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement, Violet follows the emotional transformation of a young woman accidentally scarred by her father. She sets off on a journey by bus from her small North Carolina town in the Blue Ridge Mountains to Oklahoma, in hopes that a TV evangelist can heal her scar. On her journey, she meets a young black soldier who teaches her about being an outsider and the beauty, love, and courage it takes. Violet was one of the most acclaimed off-Broadway shows of the 1990s. Through its inventive gospel, rock, country, and rhythm and blues score, it astounded critics and audiences. This story of self-acceptance and love will be an uplifting evening of theatre.

Performance dates: June 14, 15, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 8pm ~ June 23 at 3pm

June 28-July 14 at Sweet Briar College’s Babcock Fine Arts Center.

June 14-July 14 at Sweet Briar College. July 19 at Old City Cemetery, July 20 at Poplar Forest, July 21 at Presbyterian Homes and Family Services.
